Keep these items in your pipe box as a reserve. A Tommy Anderson pipe reed and a roll of chanter tape.
Always carry a spare chanter reed as you never know when you will need it and no reed = no sound.
If an individual note is sharp on you chanter apply tape to the top of the hole and adjust as necessary to flatten the note. If the chanter gets sticky and slippery, clean it off and get a new piece.
Tape is an extremely useful way to fine tune your chanter.
Other tips for chanter reeds.
If top hand is too sharp raise the chanter reed in the seat. Experienced players will use a craft knife or sandpaper to scrape the upper part of the reed (not the lips). Beware - you can't put cane back on to a reed so a little bit at a time and sound the reed.
If the top hand is too flat sink the reed in the chanter seat. As an absolute last resort, snip a tiny amount off the lips of the reed.
